Looking after your service robots

Delivery, cleaning and hotel robots run for hours every day. A few minutes of routine care keeps them reliable, safe and working for years. Here's what to check, how often, and what to watch for.

A simple care schedule

Always follow your manufacturer's manual first. This schedule covers the checks most service robots need.

Daily

Wipe trays, shelves and touch screens
Check the robot returns to charge at close
Clear anything left on its routes
Confirm the emergency stop is reachable

Weekly

Gently clean sensor windows and cameras with a soft, dry cloth
Remove hair and debris from wheels
Check bumpers move freely
Look for loose panels or trim

Monthly

Install software updates when offered
Review the map after any layout changes
Inspect charging contacts for dirt or wear
Check tyres or wheels for flat spots

Yearly

Book a service with your supplier
Check battery health and run time
Replace worn wheels, brushes or filters
Refresh staff training

Signs something needs attention

Most problems show early warning signs. Stop the robot and check before carrying on.

Hesitating or stoppingOften dirty sensors, a changed layout or a weak Wi-Fi spot.

Shorter run timesBatteries lose capacity over time. Ask your supplier about a health check.

Wandering off routeThe map may need updating, or something is confusing the sensors.

New noisesGrinding or clicking usually means debris in the wheels or a worn part.

Not dockingCheck the charging contacts are clean and the dock hasn't moved.

Error messagesNote the code and time, then contact your supplier rather than guessing.

Keep a simple log

A short record of checks and faults makes servicing faster and helps with warranty claims.

It also shows your health and safety checks are being done.
